About this extension
OrbitHub transforms your new tab page into a beautiful, personalized Speed Dial homepage. Replace the default Chrome new tab with a sleek dark-themed dashboard featuring quick-access shortcuts, smart bookmark folders, multi-engine search, and optional cloud sync across all your devices.
SPEED DIAL & BOOKMARKS
Create a visual grid of your favorite websites as colorful tiles. Click any tile to instantly navigate to that site — no typing, no searching through bookmarks. Each shortcut displays the site's favicon and a vibrant background color, making it easy to find what you need at a glance.
Organize shortcuts into folders with unlimited nesting depth. Create groups like "Work Tools", "Social Media", "News", or "Entertainment" and keep everything structured. Folder tiles show a 2x2 preview of their contents so you always know what's inside without opening them.
Navigate through folders using a breadcrumb trail at the top of the page. Jump back to any parent level instantly with a single click.
Default shortcuts included: Google, YouTube, GitHub, Social folder (Reddit + Twitter), and Wikipedia — so you can start using OrbitHub immediately after installation.
DRAG & DROP ORGANIZATION
Rearrange your speed dial effortlessly with full drag-and-drop support:
Drag shortcuts left or right to reorder them within the current folder
Drag shortcuts onto folder tiles to move them inside
Drag shortcuts onto the breadcrumb trail to move them to parent folders
Visual drop indicators show exactly where an item will land
Everything responds instantly with smooth visual feedback.
SMART MULTI-ENGINE SEARCH
The search bar in OrbitHub is smarter than it looks. Type a URL and it navigates directly to that page. Type anything else and it searches using your preferred search engine.
Switch between engines using the dropdown button next to the search field — no need to go into settings. Change engines for the current session without affecting your default.
Custom Search Engines: Add any website that supports URL-based search using %s as a placeholder for your query. This works with GitHub, Stack Overflow, Wikipedia, corporate intranets, e-commerce sites, or any other searchable resource. Unlimited custom engines.
Manage all your search engines from the settings panel: set defaults, hide built-in engines you don't use, and delete custom engines you no longer need.
DEEP CUSTOMIZATION
Make OrbitHub truly yours with extensive personalization options.
Icons:
Auto-fetch favicons from any website
Upload your own image from your computer
Paste a custom icon URL
Live preview before saving
Colors:
Choose any background color for each shortcut tile using a built-in color picker
Auto-color mode generates a consistent, unique color for each shortcut based on its name — using a hash algorithm that selects from 14 preset colors

Slide Up
Fade In
Scale Up
Slide Down
Slide from Right
Blur In
No animation
Interface Visibility — toggle any element on or off:

Email and password registration
One-click Google Sign-In (OAuth 2.0)
What syncs:
All shortcuts and folder structure
Custom search engines
Hidden built-in engine preferences

Sync is automatic — any change you make is pushed to the cloud within seconds. When you open a new tab on another device, the latest data loads immediately.
Manual sync controls are also available in settings: pull from cloud or push to cloud on demand.
Cloud sync is completely optional. By default, all data is stored locally on your device in Chrome's secure storage. Create an account only if you want cross-device synchronization.
BACKUP AND RESTORE
Never lose your Speed Dial setup. Export all your data — shortcuts, folders, search engines, and settings — as a JSON file. Import it back on any device or after a fresh Chrome installation.
The export format is open and human-readable, so you can edit it manually if needed.
QUICK-ADD POPUP
The OrbitHub icon in your Chrome toolbar opens a compact popup for adding the current page as a shortcut:
Page title and URL are filled in automatically
Select which folder to save it to
Save in two clicks from any page
No need to open a new tab and fill out a form — add shortcuts instantly while browsing.
PRIVACY & SECURITY
All data is stored locally in Chrome Storage by default — nothing leaves your device without your consent
Cloud sync requires explicit sign-up and is always opt-in
Permissions requested: storage, activeTab, tabs, identity — only what is strictly necessary
Site favicons are fetched via Google and DuckDuckGo favicon services — only the domain name is sent, never your full URL or personal data
No analytics, no tracking, no ads
