About this extension
Initial release.
PIN Lock for ChatGPT Session is an unofficial Firefox extension that adds a lightweight local PIN layer to chatgpt.com.
What it does:
- Asks for a local PIN when opening chatgpt.com.
- Unlocks ChatGPT for the current Firefox browser session after the correct PIN is entered.
- Asks for the PIN again after Firefox is closed and reopened.
- Includes a toolbar popup to change/remove the PIN or manually lock the session again.
- Uses separate toolbar icons for locked and unlocked session states.
- Stores only a SHA-256 hash of the PIN in local extension storage.
- Does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any user data.
Important security note:
This extension is intended as a lightweight barrier against casual local access. It is not strong security. If the extension is disabled or removed, chatgpt.com will be accessible normally if the user is still logged in.
For users who want to make removal harder, the README includes instructions for installing the extension as a mandatory Firefox extension through Firefox enterprise policies. This can prevent removal from the normal Firefox add-ons interface, but it still does not protect against someone with sufficient permissions to modify browser policies or administer the device.
This extension is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by OpenAI.
